The GearAmerica Aluminum 2”x2” Hitch Receiver & Mega Shackle is a product designed for heavy-duty towing and off-road recovery, with a hitch receiver rated at 22,000 LBS (MBC) and a recommend a safe Working Load Limit (WLL) of 11,000 LBS or half of the effective break strength. The Mega Shackle that comes bundled has an MBC of 68,000 LBS and a WLL of 16,000 LBS. The hitch receiver fits a standard 2"x2" hitch opening and comes in matte (flat) black. The hole that pin goes through to secure it to the hitch is 5/8”, and a soft shackle may be used in place of the D-ring. The package includes only two black rubber washers that go between the shackle and the draw hitch; it does not have an isolator on the actual shackle itself. Online reviews show that customers had mixed experiences with the product. While some deemed it a great addition to have, others criticized the screw through pin design that has a tendency to rattle out, and the fact that it is manufactured in China rather than in the USA. Additionally, despite GearAmerica's advertised "lifetime warranty," it is not a warranty for the purchaser's life and will "cease when the product has been phased out," which some customers found misleading. However, several buyers were satisfied with how easy it was to install and believed it would hold up for a long time.
