It has a good fit that does not cause any discomfort to the dog, which makes it ideal for long hikes. The pack also has a reflective strip that is useful for night-hiking and metal D-rings for attaching the dog's leash. The pack is made of rugged materials and has large side pockets that are suitable for storing lots of stuff. The Ruffwear Approach Pack is not perfect, however. The side material of the pack is not sturdy and is easily damaged when the dog brushes up against trees and brush. The pack is also sensitive to weight imbalances, which makes it necessary to ensure that both sides of the pack are well-balanced during a hike.
