Answer: No, it does not keep dirt and water out of the fuel system. It is recommended to use only if you have a fass fuel, or another aftermarket fuel pump on your truck that has its own filter system. -

FASS Filters DFD4000 Editorial Review
If you have a lift pump, the FASS 6.6L Duramax Filter Delete is a great option to Consider. However, it is important to note that this item is only to be used if you have an aftermarket fuel pump with its own filter system. The FASS fuel system filters the fuel to 3 microns, whereas the stock filter can't filter that much and becomes restrictive on your fuel system. Essentially, this item is a hollow bowl that spins on and removes the stock fuel filter. It comes with an o-ring seal for the mating surface and a brass plug for the gauge port. You will have to remove the spring and ball from inside the filter head, under the fuel heater before installing this, or the truck won't run. The port size for the pressure sensor is 1/4 inch NPT. Interestingly, the FASS system isn't guaranteed forever if bought from Amazon, so it is important to purchase from an authorized dealer. The reviews indicate that some buyers experienced air leaks because of the o-ring that seals the unit, making it not work correctly. A few reviewers also found the installation process to be difficult without any instructions. Other customers reported issues with rough idling and a low fuel rail pressure after installation, and some stated that the product was not machined well enough to fit their vehicle correctly.
