A 4 pole switch is like 4 standard switches lined up in a row (side by side) such that flipping one flips all four at the same time. The Double Throw means that you can move current with two options. Connecting to the center position allows you to send power in TWO directions - depending on which way you flip the switch. Center is OFF. You have continuity from any given of the four 'posts' on one edge to their relative position on the INSIDE row of four posts - depending on which way the switch's toggle is oriented. -

It has four poles and is designed to be used in situations where you need to switch between two different circuits. The switch is well-made and comes with excellent customer service. Some customers recommend soldering the wires instead of using crimp rings. One user built a speaker switcher control using this switch and found it to work flawlessly. However, some customers found the switch difficult to toggle due to the heavy detent and its size. Another user complained that two of the four poles were defective, which is a quality control issue.
