Bir sinema kuramı sinema ‘üzerine’ değil, sinemanın yol açtığı ve kendileri de başka pratiklere karşılık gelen başka kavramlarla ilişki içerisinde olan kavramlar üzerinedir ve bir nesnenin diğer nesnelere göre bir önceliği olmadığı gibi, genel olarak kavram pratiğinin de diğer pratiklere göre hiçbir önceliği yoktur. (...) Büyük sinema yönetmenleri büyük ressamlar veya büyük müzisyenler gibidir: kendi yaptıkları hakkında en iyi konuşacak olan onlardır. Fakat konuşurken başka bir şey haline gelirler; filozof veya kuramcı olurlar; kuramlarla işi olmayan Hawks için dahi, kuramları küçümser gibi yapan Godard için dahi bu geçerlidir. Sinemanın kavramları sinemada verili değildir. Yine de bunlar sinemanın kavramlarıdır, sinema üzerine kuramlar değil.
